I tried a different style acanthus leaf for this baronial scroll. The illumination is based on the Luxembourg Book of Hours, French & Dutch, early 15th c. I tried a different adhesive for the gold leaf - this time gesso buttons. I had a bit of trouble as the gesso has to have just the right amount of tackiness for the gold to stick. I had to continually blow on the gesso to keep it moist enough for the gold to stick. Actually, I had my husband blow on it while I quickly laid the leaf. All in all, the gold leaf took quite well. I still need lots of practice, but the gesso buttons have, thus far, produced the best results for me. Calligraphy is modified gothic textura quadrata. I completed this scroll on Sept. 21, 2005.
