This Purple Fret was given to a fellow Household (Silken Petals) member and good friend, so I was thrilled to be able to work on this assignment. I based this scroll off of the Beaufort Hours, English or S. Netherlands, early 15th century, since the recipient (Philippa) is an English persona. If you look closely, you'll also notice I snuck in details of Philippa's device in her heraldic colors (blue harp & gold otter rampant). I really enjoyed doing this scroll even though it took me into the wee hours of the morning of the event to complete. The gold leaf doesn't pop like I wished it would, but I plan to (hopefully) fix this with better adhesive. Calligraphy is modified gothic textura quadrata. I completed this scroll on January 15, 2005.
